Netflix Movie The Discovery Thinks the Afterlife is a Bad Idea

by Lambert Varias

I haven’t heard much of director Charlie McDowell’s Netflix exclusive movie The Discovery. But when I found out that McDowell also helmed The One I Love I’m looking forward to seeing his latest work. Like The One I Love, The Discovery is based around a sci-fi plot point but is focused on the human reaction to a fantastic phenomenon. In this case, a scientist (played by Robert Redford) announced that he has considerable evidence that the afterlife exists. The result? Millions of people commit suicide.

The film also stars Jason Segel as the scientist’s skeptical son, and McDowell’s real life partner Rooney Mara as one of the people who view the afterlife as a second chance. Collider says the movie doesn’t live up to its grand premise but is worth watching nonetheless. The Discovery drops 3/31/17 on Netflix.
