Spider-Man Re-Animate: Fan Animated Short Film

by Lambert Varias

“I’ll catch up with that bird brain yet, and when I do, I’ll clip his wings for good!” The 1967 Spider-Man TV series clearly didn’t age well. Fortunately for us, a group of animators and other artists in Nova Scotia spent a year to freshen up one of the show’s episodes. The result is Spider-Man Re-Animate. Similar to Star Wars Uncut, Spider-Man Re-Animate consists of short videos that were made separately and in a variety of art or animation styles, from 1920’s Disney to live action to Undertale. The result is an apt reflection of modern pop culture – a tongue-in-cheek facsimile of everything that’s come before it.

The crowdsourced short is a remake of the episode The Vulture’s Prey, in which the Vulture kidnaps J. Jonah Jameson. Watch the short and enjoy, then check out the original episode in the video below to see how far we’ve come.
