BATTLETECH Tactical Turn-based RPG Gameplay

by Lambert Varias

BattleTech and Shadowrun creator Jordan Weisman is giving new life to his sci-fi and roleplaying franchises by turning them into video games, thanks to his game development company Harebrained Schemes. They’ve already made a couple of great Shadowrun games, and now it’s BattleTech‘s turn. Funded on Kickstarter in 2015, BATTLETECH is essentially a virtual tabletop wargame. The early gameplay video above will give you a good idea of Harebrained Scheme’s MO. They simplify the number crunching significantly in favor a more fast-paced but still turn-based and strategic gameplay. Think XCOM, but with 30ft.-tall mechs.

BATTLETECH will be released next year on Windows, Mac and Linux. As of this writing you can still pre-order a digital copy of the game at a discounted price of $25 (USD). There are also other bundles that include goodies such as the game’s soundtrack, a digital artbook and even an exclusive Mech variant.
