Concept Trailer for Gene Roddenberry Biopic “The Pilot”

by Conner Flynn

I love hearing all of the behind the scenes stuff that happened when they were making Star Trek. So naturally, this Gene Roddenberry biopic that is in development caught my interest. It is called The Pilot, and it chronicles the story of Star Trek’s origins. The film is being developed by James Darling, who cut together this interesting proof-of-concept trailer using footage from other films, concept art, location photos, storyboards, and some archival footage.

You wouldn’t believe all of the hurdles that Roddenberry had to go through to actually get Star Trek made. At times, he could even be a hindrance to process himself. The series has an amazing history, and this biopic looks pretty cool. The filmmakers are still trying to get financing. The concept trailer basically lays out the size and scope of the film and the story they are telling. I hope they can get it made. The film will be a “docu-dramedy,” so expect some laughs too.
