Star Trek: Discovery Ship Teased

by Conner Flynn

That new Star Trek series from CBS now has a name: Star Trek: Discovery – and along with it, a new teaser that shows off its eponymous ship, the U.S.S. Discovery aka NCC-1031.

Though the second the video dropped, complaints started rolling in. Apparently, many fans don’t like the look of this ship at all, and I can see why they have problems with it. It looks like a kit-bash of a Klingon ship and a Federation ship. I think it’s that Klingon back end that really throws people off. It has a big booty. I think that as long as they justify this design in the story, it will be okay. For instance, if it is a Klingon/Human mission. If they fail to explain this, then it is just weird, because it doesn’t fit with established Federation starship design at all.

Apparently, the ship was based on designs by Ralph McQuarrie for Star Trek: The Motion Picture. We also know that Star Trek: Discovery will take place between the end of TOS and TNG. The series is expected to drop in January 2017, and will premiere exclusively on CBS All Access, where you can already stream every episode of Star Trek ever.
