American Gods Teaser

Starz just released our first substantial look at its TV adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s excellent novel American Gods. If you haven’t read the book, first off, go and rectify that ASAP. It’s easy to read, yet immersive and exciting.

American Gods is about an ex-convict named Shadow Moon who ends up in the middle of an impending war between the Old Gods and the New Gods. In this world, gods are only as strong as humanity’s belief in them. The old deities – the likes of Jesus, Anubis, djinns – are threatened because we’ve come to worship other things: money, technology, drugs, celebrities, etc.

Don’t look it up even if you intend to skip the book and just watch the series, because it has numerous characters and plot points that will ruin your experience if you find out about them ahead of time. Since the TV series doesn’t come out until next year, you should just go and read the book anyway.
