Star Trek Beyond: Final Trailer
June 27th, 2016Here’s the final official trailer for Star Trek Beyond, which hits theaters on July 22nd. So far, my own opinion is “meh”. I really wish I could get more excited about this movie, but between seeing motorcycle action in a Star Trek movie, and now seeing it tied to a Rihanna song, it seems clear that what little they cared for the franchise’s original premise has been thrown out the airlock. And those are just a few of the annoying things about the trailers I’ve seen so far. I know that many fans are still enjoying this new reboot series and that’s cool. But after the JJ-verse version of Wrath of Khan, I just can’t.
Anyhow, here’s a quick summary of Star Trek Beyond:
After stopping off at Starbase Earhart, a remote outpost on the fringes of Federation space, the USS Enterprise, halfway into their five-year mission, is destroyed by a powerful, unstoppable wave of unknown aliens. With the crew stranded on a unknown planet and with no apparent means of rescue, they find themselves in conflict with a new ruthless enemy who has a well-earned hatred of the Federation and what it stands for.
Also, why would you hire an awesome actor like Idris Elba, and then cover him in alien skin? I will say that some of the action does look pretty fun. Just not fun enough to get me excited. I am holding out hope that the new TV series will be good however. I can always hope.
