A Look at the Hong Kong Action Figure Industry

by Lambert Varias

YouTuber Budget Stark shared The Pearl Report‘s December 2015 episode, which goes over the high end action figure scene in Hong Kong, featuring both toy makers and collectors. The show’s editing leaves much to be desired, but it’s worth watching for the interesting trivia about the industry. For instance, the episode claims that 80% of action figures sold are from Hong Kong-based companies, partly because their experience and reputation attract the top designers and engineers. The show also talked to high end toy makers looking to cash in on the growing mainland Chinese market, which one executive described as “peculiar” because many Chinese collectors look for figures based on local characters.

The video also showcases a wide range of collectors and their prized haul, such as vintage military action figures.
