Alternate Versions of Captain America

by Lambert Varias

To celebrate the release of Captain America: Civil War, Variant Comics highlights some of the notable takes on Marvel’s old school hero, from the original tale by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby to Cap-Wolf. It’s not a comprehensive list, but you’d need a feature-length film to do that with a character this old. I’d like to add Isaiah Bradley, John Walker and A-Babies Steve Rogers as honorable mentions.

On a sidenote, I just saw Civil War and it’s great. I’d rank it as being right up there with Iron Man and Guardians of the Galaxy. If you can accept Marvel’s formula for its movies, then the good – decent humor, great casting, and eye-popping visual effects – outweighs the bad – disgusting cinematography, nonsense story, and stupid villains – by a fair margin. If you walked out of the theater when Star-Lord danced to save the galaxy – and I totally understand if you did that – then you’re done with the MCU. Otherwise, you’re in for a treat. I’m definitely going to watch Civil War for a second time on the big screen.
