Worlds of Ursula K. Le GuinFebruary 7th, 2016
“Any kind of imaginative fiction trains people to be aware that there are other ways to do things and other ways to be.” For the past 7 years, writer and filmmaker Arwen Curry has been filming with Ursula K. Le Guin, one of the most important and talented fiction writers of the past half-century, with the intent of making an hour-long documentary about the writer. Whereas many works of science fiction and fantasy conjure grand worlds that end up becoming prizes of conquest, Le Guin weaves life to reflect on it, on the benefits and consequences of the status quo and what could be if it were not the case.
Curry has secured a production grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities, but the money won’t be released until she raises the entire production budget, so she started a Kickstarter fundraiser to fulfill her end of the bargain. A pledge of at least $25 (USD) will let you stream the documentary when it’s finished. There’s also a $75 pledge tier that will reward you with a DVD copy of the film.
Fortunately, Curry has already exceeded her target amount of $80,000, but you can still pledge to support her film and grab a few goodies in the process.
