Speed Drawing Star Wars

by Paul Strauss

While I like to think I’m a pretty creative person, I’ve never been that good at illustration. Sure, I can draw rudimentary shapes and objects, but nothing like the stuff that serious artists can do. Take, for example, the work of illustrator Marcello Barenghi (which rhymes with Ferengi!).

Marcello draws all kinds of wonderful and detailed images, using a combination of pen, pencil, marker, and airbrushing. He achieves some impressive depth, through the use of reflection, light and shadow too. He recently posted a series that shows him creating some awesome Star Wars images. He captured the drawing process for each image using time-lapse, so we can see the images come together in just minutes. Obviously, the actual drawings took much, much longer.

Check out a super-quick rendition of C-3PO in the video above, and Darth Vader, R2-D2, BB-8, and an Imperial Stormtrooper below. You can see the finished drawings on his website. Awesome work, Marcello.
