Inside Griff Tannen’s BMW
October 16th, 2015The Back to the Future series has many famous objects: the DeLorean, the Air Mag, the hoverboard. Jeff Chabotte has an actual prop from the movie, but folks aren’t exactly throwing money his way or flocking to his home to see it, and for good reason. What Jeff has is Griff Tannen’s BMW 633CSi from Back to the Future II.
As if being owned by a badly acted, one dimensional and minor character wasn’t off-putting enough, the car itself is a clunker, as The Aficionauto and Jeff himself admit in the video above. Apparently, the BTTF II crew bought it from a grey market seller for $400 (USD). You don’t get a quality car for that kind of money, not even in the ’80s. You can’t blame them though; they didn’t need a car in driving condition. Besides it was only onscreen for a few seconds.
But for hardcore BTTF fans like Jeff, the BMW is a priceless relic. The car’s inner workings barely work, but believe it or not it was much worse when Jeff got his hands on it. He and his friends were able to restore its exterior, though naturally they left the left taillight broken. Now Jeff is auctioning off the car, hopefully to someone who can overhaul it even more.
iCollector will handle the auction on 10/24; bidding starts at $11,000.
