Darth Vader Visits Boy Fighting LeukemiaAugust 10th, 2015
Luke knew there was still good in him. Obviously Luke was right, because Darth Vader just did something very nice for one young Star Wars fan. 8-year-old Ian O’Hara has spent most of his life in and out of the hospital fighting B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Poor kid. It’s a good thing we have the 501st Legion working for the Light Side.
Members of the charitable group dressed as Star Wars characters, including Darth Vader, Grand Moff Tarkin, and a Stormtrooper, and visited him to cheer him up. Ian had a few lightsaber fights and a heck of a good time. It must have been amazing for him to see some of his favorite characters come to life. Ian actually met the Star Wars group before, but he was in isolation at the hospital after a bone marrow transplant at the time. This time he got to interact with them.
Ian will be heading to Mott’s Children’s Hospital at the University of Michigan next week for a new kind of treatment, involving T-cell therapy. I’m sure he will still be riding high from this visit, and hope that the new treatment helps.
