DIY Low Budget (but Decent) Iron Man Arc Reactor

by Lambert Varias

There are a million and one guides online on making a replica of Iron Man’s arc reactor, but Dustin McLean of DIY Prop Shop shows us how to make one – specifically the arc reactor from the first Iron Man film – using commonly found objects.

Dustin used a sink strainer, an LED tap light and other items from a hardware store to make the replica. All in all he spent only $30 (USD). His replica actually looks so much like the movie version that I wouldn’t be surprised if Marvel’s props folks made prototypes using the same parts that Dustin used.
