Suicide Squad Comic-Con Trailer Breaks Wide

by Paul Strauss

Most of us already saw a blurry, shaky cam version of the SDCC trailer for director David Ayer’s Suicide Squad, but that clearly didn’t do it justice. Now we get to see a nice high-def version, complete with sound we can actually hear.

For those not in the know, the Suicide Squad is a team of antiheroes who are brought together by the U.S. government to carry out deep cover black-ops missions, so the bureaucrats can deny involvement if things go wrong. In exchange for their mission work, the criminals’ prison sentences are commuted.

Among the baddies we’re rooting for in the movie version of the Squad are Deadshot, Captain Boomerang, Rick Flagg, El Diablo, Enchantress, Katana, Killer Croc, Slipknot, Harley Quinn and the Joker. Hugo Strange also makes an appearance, according to the film’s IMDb page, and Ben Affleck will also show up as Batman. Suicide Squad will hit theaters on August 5, 2016 – a few months after the release of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, so it’s safe to assume the events of that film will have some impact on its plot.

I’m still not sold that Jared Leto will ever live up to the the madness of Heath Ledger’s Joker, but then again, did you see him as Mark David Chapman? Talk about a creepy dude.
