Fastest Sci-Fi Spaceships Ranked by Speed (Infographic)
July 13th, 2015

Growing up, I always thought the Space Shuttle was really fast. But in the grand scheme of things, it’s not really that speedy. In fact, the peak acceleration of the Shuttle was a measly 3G. A top fuel dragster accelerates faster. But can you imagine traveling in a spaceship that can travel at 30G? How about 4,100G? A ship that could travel faster than 100G would kill you in an instant, so the fact that a TIE Fighter can go 41 times the human G-force limit makes its existence at least somewhat dubious.
The guys at FatWallet put together this handy chart which compares the acceleration of some real world and science fiction spaceships, from the lowly DeLorean DMC-12, which pulls 0.34G (I’m assuming that’s not during time travel), to insane contraptions like the TARDIS and the Heart of Gold, which far exceed the speed of light. It’s nice to see that Spaceball 1 make the list. I always figured that going to plaid would be really, really fast.
