Star Wars: The Force Awakens – Behind the Scenes

by Paul Strauss

While J.J. Abrams and the folks behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens could have shown up at San Diego Comic-Con with a reel of footage from the highly anticipated flick, they decided to take a different approach. Instead, they showcased a reel of behind the scenes shots, which is in some ways even more satisfying.

In this short clip, we get to see the series’ return to the use of practical effects for everything from the droids to explosions to the creatures, and the use of real sets for as much as possible. Sure, there’s no question there will be some CGI in the film, but it’s clear that J.J Abrams wants to return to the analog feel of the original series, rather than Lucas’ overly digital prequels and endless re-releases.

What I really love about this video is to witness the combination of childlike wonder and reverence for the series from the cast and crew. These guys really want to make an amazing movie. In the end, it will be the script and the characters that will be the deciding factor for me, but thus far, all evidence gives us hope that this will be the best Star Wars movie since the 1980s.
