New Swift Video Is High on Sci-Fi

Taylor Swift’s new video for her tune Bad Blood is rife with references to all kinds of sci-fi and action flicks. Who knew the Nashville cowgirl was such a pop culture film fiend? Or maybe it’s just director Joseph Kahn who’s the fanboy.

Regardless, there are so many brief homages it’s hard to spot them all. Here are some of the films I saw that get a nod: the title sequence screams Sin City; Swift smashes through an office tower window a la The Matrix; she then battles a bunch of babes who could double as the Crazy 88s from Kill Bill; there are actually a couple of plugs for The Fifth Element; she rips through a parking garage on a cycle that appears borrowed from TRON: Legacy; and some are saying the exit scene is lifted from Mad Max: Fury Road. There are also a ton of A-Listers to ogle over who appear in quick cameos, including Selena Gomez, Jessica Alba, Karlie Kloss, Lena Dunham and even Cindy Crawford.
