Liquid Body Armor: The Choice of Superheroes

by John Thomas

When I read the headline on WallStreetDaily- “Magical Liquid Turns You Into a Superhero” – the first thing I did was check the date that the article was posted. When I saw that it wasn’t April 1, I read on.

And I’m glad I did, because I learned that soon I may be invincible. How? By using an amazing new liquid body armor created by a Polish research institute called Moratex.

The substance has been dubbed shear-thickening fluid (STF) and its differentiating property is that it gets hard when it gets hit. So why would that help you survive a bullet to the belly if your had STF slathered all over your midsection? After testing, the U.S. Army Research Laboratory explained that, “STF-treated fibers don’t stretch as far on impact as ordinary fibers, meaning that bullets don’t penetrate as deeply into the armor or a person’s tissue underneath.”

Could it be that this incredible new technology means that the Caped Crusader’s bulletproof Bat Suit may not be such a fantasy fashion item after all? Stay tuned, because Moratex says STF will hit the market soon.
