First Trailer for Marvel’s Ant-Man

by Lambert Varias

Marvel just released the debut trailer for Ant-Man, starring Paul Rudd as Scott Lang and the titular hero, Michael Douglas as Dr. Hank Pym – the original Ant-Man in the comics – Evangeline Lilly as Hope Van Dyne and Corey Stoll as the main villain, who appears to be a villanous adaptation of one of Pym’s alter egos in the comics, Yellowjacket.

Marvel seems to be largely sticking to the comic book version of Ant-Man, down to his ability to communicate and control insects. It remains to be seen whether the movie version of Yellowjacket will also be able to both shrink and grow in size like in the comics, as only the former is seen in the trailer.

Contrary to the mostly serious teaser we saw earlier this year, it’s evident in this trailer that Marvel its sticking to its tried and tested formula: an equal mix of humor, action and eye-popping visual effects. Seeing how it was able to pull off Guardians of the Galaxy – which was actually a riskier proposition considering it was about a whole team of B-list characters – I’m willing to give Paul Rudd and Ant-Man the benefit of the doubt.

I’m interested in Evangeline Lilly’s character though. She’s named after the daughter of Pym and Janet Van Dyne, aka Wasp. I wonder if Marvel is testing the waters for an Ant-Man sequel.
