TIE Fighter: A Star Wars Fan Anime
March 24th, 2015There are times when I think the stuff being produced by fans is better than the stuff coming out of major Hollywood studios. Case in point is TIE Fighter. This short film was a labor of love by animator Paul “OtaKing” Johnson, who worked on it over the course of four years, working tirelessly on nights and weekends to complete the 7 minute short.
Animated in a ’80s tinged anime style, it turns the tables on the typical Star Wars story, putting us in the seats of the Empire instead of the Rebellion and the Jedi. While it’s devoid of dialogue, it still does a great job telling a story, and looks just spectacular. Plus, the rockin’ soundtrack by Zak Rahman and sound effects by Joseph Leyva help elevate it to another level of awesomeness.
Great job guys! I’d love to see more from the Star Wars anime universe.
