Back to the Future Deleted Scene: Funny or Offensive?

by Conner Flynn

Seems like this deleted scene from Back to the Future has been around for some time, but it’s making the rounds now. Since it is new to me, it might be new to you. So enjoy. Basically what we have here is an awkward conversation between Marty and Doc Brown about the weirdness of Marty hitting on his mom, who has a crush on him.

Doc encourages Marty to take a “few liberties” with her. Marty says, “I can’t believe I’m going to feel up my own mother,” and worries that this is the kind of thing that could screw him up in the future. I can see why it was cut. It’s just awkward and not worth it for the sake of making a gay joke. I can understand how some overly-sensitive types could be offended by the scene, but I thought it was funny.
