Crumbs: A Surreal Sci-Fi Flick from Ethiopia

by Paul Strauss

I’m really not sure what to make of Crumbs, but the trailer for this unusual film from Ethiopia has certainly piqued my curiosity. The trailer for Miguel Llanso’s enigmatic film doesn’t really give us any clue what is going on, but it features a diminutive man named “Birdy” on an adventure through Ethiopia, who heads out on a journey of self discovery when he leaves his home – which happens to be a bowling alley.

The story follows Birdy as he wanders a post-apocalyptic world, a mysterious spaceship hanging in the sky above. Along the way, he encounters evil in various forms, including a gun-toting freak in a Nazi uniform, and a possessed looking guy in a Santa suit. Oh, and he stops to ride a ferris wheel at a creepy old amusement park. If you think that all sounds bizarre, that’s because it is. Watch the trailer and see what I mean.

If you’re interested in seeing the whole 68-minute film, it’s is headed to U.S. via IndiePix sometime later this year.
