Fascinating Jabba The Hutt Documentary

by Conner Flynn

If you have ever wondered about what life was like for the puppeteers inside of Jabba The Hutt, check out this 20-minute fan documentary by filmmaker Jamie Benning. It’s really fascinating to see what the team went through and to hear their stories. They really did a great job of bringing this slimy crime lord to life on screen.

The video includes some rare outtakes, stills and behind-the-scenes stuff. Did you know that Jabba was possibly the most expensive puppet ever made? Or that it was inspired by Jim Henson’s The Dark Crystal? As most of us know, George Lucas originally wanted to create Jabba the Hutt through CGI, but the technology at the time prevented it. I think we dodged a bullet there. That didn’t work so well in the special edition.

The film is certainly worth a watch if you love behind the scenes features, or if you’re a fan of puppetry, practical VFX or Hutts.
