Luke Finishes His Lightsaber in This Deleted Scenezoom in

One of the things we never got to see in Return of the Jedi was Luke constructing his new lightsaber. Well, in this deleted scene from Episode VI, we can at least watch Luke put the finishing touches on the weapon as Darth Vader reaches out with the Force, urging his son to join him.

As soon as he is finished, he ignites the lightsaber and immediately sends R2-D2 on his way to Jabba’s palace. He has a friend to save, after all. The adventure is set in motion. It doesn’t really change the plot, it just adds a bit of extra explanation. I can see why they cut it though. It was a bit more dramatic in the final edit.
