The Sound of Godzilla

Whether or not you thought there wasn’t enough Godzilla in Gareth Edwards’ Godzilla, there’s no question the film had some impressive sound effects. So just how does a Kaiju get to sound the way it does? In this just-released documentary from Soundworks Collection, we get to go inside the making of the film’s extraordinarily creepy noises, led by Sound Designer Erik Aadahl and Supervising Sound Editor Ethan Van der Ryn.

Trust me when I say you’ll want to wear headphones or crank your speakers up to 11 for this. From the screams of children on a schoolbus, to the ominous growl of the monsters, you’ll be surprised to see how they created some of these sounds. To keep things mysterious, they refuse to share what sound elements went into Godzilla’s roar, but there’s lots more to learn about their inspirations and methods in the full-length documentary below:
