Everything Wrong with Edge of Tomorrow

by Paul Strauss

I think that Tom Cruise is at his best in science fiction films. Think about it: Minority Report, Vanilla Sky, Oblivion, Edge of Tomorrow – even War of the Worlds was pretty entertaining at times. Despite being a let-down at the box office, Edge of Tomorrow was still among my top five films of 2014. But like anything else, it’s not perfect. Anything that messes with time as much as the film does has got to have some imperfections, plot holes and clichés. Leave it to the guys at CinemaSins to rip the film apart, exposing its most heinous missteps.

What do you guys think? Can you overlook these sins, or should they see if there’s a way to get the aliens to reset the clock and go back to fix these mistakes? Frankly, I think the biggest sin was how the marketing guys basically changed the name of the movie to “Live, Die, Repeat” for its post-theatrical release, apparently to distance itself from the movie’s less than stellar box office performance.
