Ex Machina Teaser Trailer

by Paul Strauss

“To erase the line between man and machine is to obscure the line between men and gods.” That’s the tag line for Ex Machina, the directorial debut of Alex Garland, writer of 28 Days Later and Sunshine. The plot of the film centers around a computer programmer who wins a competition to spend a week at the estate of his company’s founder. When he arrived, he learns that he’s been selected to help conduct a Turing Test between him and a highly-sophisticated, anthropomorphic form of artificial intelligence, named Ava.

While the teaser trailer doesn’t reveal too much more about the plot, at its core it’s that Ava turns out to be more human than human – complete with the ability to deceive – setting up the dramatic tension in the story.

Ex Machina opens in theaters on April 10, 2015. I look forward to seeing more as we get closer to the release date.
