Director Michael Matzur set forth an interesting challenge for himself. He wanted to create a short science fiction proof-of-concept which could express a backstory and offer up a complete story arc in just one minute – without any dialogue. In Arrival, he achieved this by using a series of text messages to set up the story, which leads to a dramatic revelation, and an unexpected and intriguing reaction from our protagonist.

The film cleverly uses simple visual devices to convey a significant amount of plot very economically, and the story itself seems worth exploring further. I won’t give away the plot, since you only need to take a minute of your time to watch.
