The Great Martian War

by Paul Strauss

This short film by Christian Johnson and Steve Maher envisions a War of the Worlds-like alien invasion of Earth. Shot in grainy black and white and with creepy three-legged aliens demolishing Europe’s cities, it’s quite a spectacle. The film does a great job capturing a sort of World War I feel as thousands of men battle the menacing alien horde with their guns, bi-planes and tanks.

As the film progresses, we bear witness to aliens sinking cruise ships, and even alien prisoner of war experiments.

Apparently, this was part of a two-hour BBC/History Channel program called The Great Martian War, but a mockumentary doesn’t really seem like something that should be on a channel called “History.”
