Zona Concept Art Looks Amazing

I don’t have much information about Zona, other than that it’s an upcoming science fiction TV series in Russia, based on a short novel by prolific science fiction authors Arkady and Boris Strugatsky – quite possibly Roadside Picnic based on what I’ve read. Regardless of the source of the story, if the concept art by Alex Andreev is any indication of what we can expect, it looks fantastic.

These still images recently surfaced on Andreev’s Behance page, and the scenes and style look surreal and awesome. We’re certainly looking at some sort of dystopian, post-apocalyptic setting, with strange and threatening biomechanical creatures, helicopters caught in giant spiderwebs, and structures that seem to float in the air. Heck, it’s got a schoolbus with robotic spider legs, and things with light-up tentacles. What’s not to like?

Zona is expected to debut sometime in 2015. There’s no word on the plot for the show, or if we’ll ever get to see it outside of Russia, but I’d be happy to watch it even with subtitles, simply on the basis of these concept images.
