The Sand Storm

by Paul Strauss

In director Jason Wishnow’s short “low-fi sci-fi” film about a dystopian future Earth, its residents must do whatever it takes to survive in a world of diminishing supplies. The most prized resource – clean water, must often be smuggled or stolen. When a water smuggler (played by contemporary artist Ai Weiwei) finds himself thrown into the midst of a love triangle, and his water supply pilfered, he ends up on a journey which leads to an unexpected source of hope for one woman.

Overall, the film has much more style than substance, and is short on plot, but it certainly sets the scene for a larger exploration of this dark and bleak world.
