Forging the Lightsaber Katana

by Paul Strauss

For their latest weapon build, the blacksmiths at Man at Arms: Reforged combined two fan favorites, a lightsaber and a katana. The Stagmer brothers of Baltimore Knife and Sword mashed up this hybrid sword, which ironically combines both George Lucas’ lightsaber and the weapon that inspired it, a Japanese Katana.

Ultimately, because these are badasses who work with molten steel and dangerous power tools all day, they decided to go Dark Side and make a Sith lightsaber. It took days of work to hand-forge the blade, and a complicated mix of CNC cutting, machining and hand metalwork to build the lightsaber handle.

The end result is really quite impressive. This is truly an elegant weapon for a more civilized age.
