Uprooted: A Short Sci-Fi Film without Words

by Paul Strauss

Despite its complete lack of dialogue, this short science fiction film is as emotionally intense as anything we’ve seen come out of in the theater. Directed by Johnny Likens, Uprooted takes us on a journey with an astronaut as she reflects on her life on Earth and heads into space. While its ending isn’t as upbeat as typical Hollywood fare, it’s certainly a bold punctuation mark to the film.

Instead of using expensive CGI to create the illusion of space travel, much of the footage used was assembled from public domain NASA footage and then projection mapped into the scenes using Cinema 4D.

Bravo on a great short film, John. We hope to see more work from you in the future.
