U.S.S. Enterprise Created in 15 Minutes, School Project Saved
June 6th, 2014This video was created by the USC Viterbi School of Engineering to celebrate the anniversary of Star Trek III: The Search for Spock. And also to shed some light on USC Viterbi Professor Yong Chen’s revolutionary 3-D printing technology.
Star Trek III: The Search for Spock first hit theaters 30 years ago. So naturally, young Eli has made a diorama for a school project that depicts the epic destruction of the Enterprise as seen in that film. There is one small problem: he doesn’t have an Enterprise. Just a Millennium Falcon, which probably won’t satisfy the sci-fi fans out there. And school is about to start!
So mom gets on her communicator and calls Professor Chen, who, like Scotty, basically says that it will take too long, about five hours, but he will see what he can do. And like Scotty, he comes through as a miracle worker and delivers the goods much quicker. What once took up to five hours took just 15 minutes. School project saved!! Reputation as a miracle worker completely in tact.
