Simulating the Speed of Light in Minecraft

by Kenny Hoeschen

Minecraft tinkerer extraordinaire, Spumwack, developed a way to illustrate the speed of light in the popular video game. Since travel speed in Minecraft is potentially unlimited (with the proper hacks), he simulated the fact that nothing in the universe can travel faster than light by using doorways to limit travel speed. After setting up the proper world, we zip from one side of a Minecraft world (60,000,000 virtual meters) to the other at the speed of light (in 1/5th of a second).
