The Big Read: A Conversation with Ray Bradbury
March 25th, 2014In this wonderful interview, acclaimed science fiction author Ray Bradbury describes how he first fell in love with books and libraries when he was a young boy and how books continued to influence him throughout his life. Interestingly, one of his favorite books early on was John Steinbeck’s The Grapes of Wrath which taught him how to structure a novel and, as it turns out, Bradbury’s The Martian Chronicles completely follows the the structure of that classic.
Bradbury’s obvious love for writing, the written word, and life is infectious and the entire interview is well worth watching. As he puts it, “Love what you do and do what you love.”
The film was made as part of The Big Read project funded by the National Endowment for the Arts and was directed by Lawrence Bridges.
