Star Wars: Leonard Maltin Interviews George Lucas
March 1st, 2014Back in August of 1995, movie critic Leonard Maltin had the chance to sit down with George Lucas to discuss the original Star Wars trilogy. The interviews were timed to coincide with the VHS (remember that?) release of the trilogy.
Lucas starts with explaining the origination of the idea for Star Wars as his own “space opera.” Lucas’s original script was much too big for one movie and he took the first part to make into Episode IV. He also had to create his own team to do the film’s special effects, which led to the foundation of Industrial Light & Magic.
In Part 2, Lucas discusses The Empire Strikes Back and its place in the trilogy.
In the last part, George Lucas and Leonard Maltin discuss the making of Return of the Jedi.
