Isaac Asimov’s Predictions for 2014 via Geek Beat

by Kenny Hoeschen

Cali Lewis and John P. over at Geek Beat put together this great review of what the venerated science fiction author Isaac Asimov predicted for us around the year 2014 way back in 1964. Asimov, of course, was the author of many, many science fiction classics including the Foundation series and I, Robot. He also famously wrote the three “laws of robotics”:

1. A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
2. A robot must obey orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

This terrific video contains clips of Asimov explaining the rules. Cali and John then review Asimov’s predictions for “50 years in the future,” written in 1964, meaning the predictions are for the year 2014.
