Star Wars: Making the Endor Speeder Bike Scene

by Kenny Hoeschen

Dennis Muren takes us behind the scenes of the conception and filming of the speeder bike chase scene through the forests of Endor, one of the most recognizable scenes from Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi. Muren explains George Lucas gave direction to the Industrial Light & Magic team about how the scene would begin and how it would end and the team worked to fill in the middle. They had to construct a model forest so they could figure out how to film the high-speed chase through the forest without crashing into a redwood in northern California.
