The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, The Dragon Wakes
November 30th, 2013Set some 60 years before Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit follows the journey of Bilbo Baggins, played by Martin Freeman. After sleeping on a giant bed of gold and jewels for centuries, Smaug the Magnificent is awoken from his slumber by a small Hobbit going by the name of Bilbo Baggins. The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug is the second film in the Peter Jackson trilogy based on the J.R.R. Tolkien novel.
In addition to Martin Freeman returning as Bilbo Baggins, Orlando Bloom joins as Legolas, Hugo Weaving as Elrond, and Ian McKellen as Gandalf. Evangeline Lilly joins the trilogy as the elf, Tauriel, to defeat the dragon, Smaug, who is voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch.
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug enters U.S. theaters on December 13.
