Man at Arms Crafts The Hunger Games Trident

by Kenny Hoeschen

Tony Swatton, the star of Man at Arms, is a master swordsmith and renowned propmaster who forges iconic weapons using high-speed belt grinders, scorching furnaces, and pounding power hammers. He previously crafted Hit Girl’s detachable swordWolverine’s claws, and Thor’s hammer. Now he shows us how to craft Finnick’s trident from The Hunger Games.

Using 20 gauge steel and 3/16″ thick spring steel, he crafts the three points of the trident. He also crafted a long spike blade between the side blades and the shaft is chromoly steel. To make the weapon look more futuristic, everything is polished to a bright chrome finish. To make the beaded trim for the handle, Swatton was able to repurpose some chrome automotive trim.

Stay tuned for the real-world testing at the end because that thing is awesome.
