Incredible Smaug and the Lonely Mountain Print

Artist Harlan Elam created this terrific poster to commemorate the upcoming film, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. The images shows Smaug the Magnificent arising out of the Lonely Mountain with the One Ring shown behind.

As Elam describes his work, “The Hobbit was my gateway book to escapist reading when I was a kid so I knew going into my first poster I wanted to tackle that story visually. With the new movie coming out I thought it was the perfect time to get into it. The idea behind the poster was to position Smaug and The Lonely Mountain as one gigantic force that our heroes would have to overcome. Here they form a silhouette with the One Ring behind them. I was also really intrigued by blending the dwarf kingdom of Erebor into the mountain as well and it was a challenge getting all the details right. As much as I love the films nothing can ever beat the written word. This is my homage to both.”
