Samsung Recalls Fictional Smartwatches of the Past

by Kenny Hoeschen

Samsung has released an ad for its new smartphone, the Galaxy Gear, which revisits some of the classic smartwatch /smartphone technology of the fictional world. With references including Dick Tracy’s wrist radio of 1946, Michael Knight’s watch which communicated directly with KITT in Knight Rider, and Starfleet wrist communicator as seen in 1979’s Star Trek: The Motion Picture, Samsung has finally brought the world of science fiction to reality (at least that’s their claim). It’s nice to revisit some of the ideas of great science fiction of the past to see how it’s influenced today’s technology.
