The technology of Star Trek is just around the corner. Although the series first debuted in 1966, Gene Roddenberry was able to predict what the future might look like and many of his ideas are here or coming to fruition soon. Certainly, hand-held communicators have been around for a couple decades and other technologies from the Star Trek world, like replicators, tricorders, and cloaking devices are nearer than ever.
