Christian Bale’s Raspy Batman Audition

Christian Bale played Batman in a trilogy of films directed by Christopher Nolan: Batman Begins, The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises. Here is Bale’s original screentest, opposite Amy Adams, who wasn’t auditioning for any part but was just helping out as a favor. In this clip, Nolan explains how Bale really understood what was required to play the Dark Knight in costume.
