Astronaut: The Last Push Science Fiction Film

by Kenny Hoeschen

Astronaut: The Last Push is a science fiction film directed by Eric Hayden and starring Lance Henriksen (Aliens, The Terminator), Khary Payton, Brian Baumgartner (Four Christmases), and James Madio (The Basketball Diaries, Shark Tale). The film is described as, “Two astronauts, Nathan Miller and Michael Forrest embark on a 12-year journey to research life on Jupiter’s moon, Europa. Disaster strikes, Miller is killed and the mission is aborted. Forrest is left to fend for himself with a broken spacecraft to hold together. Alone in space, he must fight to maintain his sanity and make his way home.”

In this interview director Eric Hayden discusses what other science fiction films influenced his approach to the film, how the film attempts to depict a mission to Europa in a realistic, scientific manner, why he chose Europa as the destination for the film’s mission, how the astronauts respond to the extended confinement.

The first two trailers for the film are embedded below. The film is out now and available for online streaming on October 11, 2013.
