Divergent: A Behind the Scenes Look with the Author

In this behind-the-scenes featurette for Divergent, author of the series, Veronica Roth, discusses the premise of the story of the film and how it is relatable to real world society. We also hear from actors Shailene Woodley (Tris Prior), Theo James (Four), Kate Winslet (Jeanine Matthews), Jai Courtney (Eric), Maggie Q (Tori), Ashley Judd (Natalie Prior) discuss the world of Divergent and the five factions of society: compassion, intelligence, honesty, selflessness, and bravery. Each young person in the world of Divergent must choose the faction in which they’ll spend their entire lives. But Tris Prior makes a choice that surprises everyone and, it turns out, she is also a Divergent, meaning she doesn’t fit into any one group.

As described by the filmmakers: “Divergent is a thrilling action-adventure set in a future world where people are divided into distinct factions based on their personalities. Tris Prior (Shailene Woodley) is warned she is Divergent and will never fit into any one group. When she discovers a conspiracy to destroy all Divergents, she must find out what makes being Divergent so dangerous before it’s too late.”

Directed by Neil Burger, Divergent will be in theaters on March 21, 2014.
