August 23rd, 2013The NASA space program has achieved amazing success exploring our planet, our nearby neighbors, and the universe. But, of course, many of the items created by NASA have made it into our day-to-day lives. And we’re not just talking about the delicious orangey drink, Tang.
AllTime10s gives us ten everyday items created based on technology developed by NASA. From the translucent polycrystalline alumina (TPA) ceramics now used to make invisible braces and freeze-dried meals now sold and distributed around the world to scratch-resistant lenses originally created to protect astronauts’ visors. Our favorite gadget: the ear thermometer which measures the heat given off by the eardrum and which uses technology developed by NASA to measure the temperatures of stars.
