Terrific Short Film from Neill Blomkamp: Tempbot

by Kenny Hoeschen

Tempbot is a short film from 2006 written by Mark Fitzloff and directed by Neill Blomkamp, who later directed District 9 and Elysium. The film is done in a documentary style and follows the story of Tempbot, a robot working as a temp at Oregon Textiles. Tempbot has a little trouble fitting in as the newest member of the team and it also gets itself into some awkward situations, most notably with a neighbor of his in the corporate housing played by Lynda Carter (Wonder Woman). And it seems Tempbot has trouble adapting well to human customs and, when it misreads cues from the new HR Manager, played by Kirsten Robek, it’s time for Tempbot find new employment.
